Montana People’s Veto
The 2023 Montana Legislature has failed to address the major issues impacting ordinary Montanans in their daily lives.Rather than work to alleviate the housing crisis or the cost of living, the State Legislature has focused on an extremist agenda that attacks our access to healthcare, housing, and quality education, while undermining democracy in our state.
We, the People of the State of Montana, hereby proclaim our dissatisfaction with our representatives in the 2023 Montana Legislature.
We stand against any legislation that tramples our rights and the rights of our fellow citizens. The Montana Constitution guarantees our right “to improve the quality of life, equality of opportunity and to secure the blessings of liberty for this and future generations.”
We demand that Governor Gianforte veto, or refuse to enforce, any and all constitutional amendments, as well as any and all bills that: restrict our right to medical privacy, including abortion; deny gender affirming care or rights for transgender Montanans; give tax breaks largely to the wealthy; restrict tenant rights; and restrict our right to citizen initiative; such as:

- Senate Bill 93 - Charges $3700 to put an initiative on the ballot
- Senate Bill 99 - Denies gender affirming care
- Senate Bill 121 - Gives tax breaks to the rich
- Senate Bill 154 - Removes abortion from the right to privacy guaranteed in our Montana constitution
- Senate Bill 268 - Restricts local governments’ ability to regulate short-term rentals
- Senate Bill 458 - Revokes non-discrimination rights for LGBTQ+ Montanans
- House Bills 212, 221 & 222: More tax cuts for the wealthy
- House Bill 234: Attacks public schools by taking away long-standing protections for educators
- House Bill 303 - Allows health care providers to discriminate against patients based on personally held religious beliefs
- House Bill 544 - Restricts abortion coverage under Medicaid and CHIP
- House Bills 575 & 625 - The New LR 131 (would have violated constitutional right to privacy and traumatized families) Montanans already voted this down
- House Bill 721 - Imposes a 12 week abortion ban
